A person who contaminated treats with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offences against two children both between nine and ten.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in July.

The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he operated.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "rapidly".

She told the court the man had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.

The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.

"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel explained materials including infant oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepchild alerted the police about his suspicions.

She stated Ruben proceeded to play the "candy game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.

The prosecutor explained the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement again.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
