Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
