The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a significant honors show approaches, one notices a demand for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the passions of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Not so for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience rivals popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
